Although Khan's song Big World was never recorded by Pacific Orchestra, it was a constant highlight of their live show. John Gladstone often strolled through the audience or across the bar during his sax solo. This performance is from a 1981 show in Cape May, NJ. Khan is on vocals and guitar, John Gladstone is on sax and vocals, Keith DeBolt is on bass and vocals, Richie Ciavolino is on drums, "Conga" George Terzis is on percussion, and Steve "Face" Fuchs is doing the live mix and singing high harmonies.
Pacific Orchestra reunited in February of 2011 at J.C. Dobbs on South Street in Philadelphia where this version of Khan's song Black Star Line was videotaped from the audience and posted on YouTube by fan Craig Holzmer. Richie Ciavolino flew up from Florida, John Gladstone came from Maryland, Khan from Chicago, Steve "Face" Fuchs from New Jersey and Joe Grassi from down the block. Spins Nitely made a rare appearance as did Dean Cucinotta from In the Red. Our great friends Murray and Rene Milner, Pat Jackson, Cathy Cleghorn, Dave Gregg, Jami Galbraith and more were in the house on that wonderful evening.
The relentless rhythmic onslaught of Richie Ciavolino (drums) and "Conga" George Terzis (percussion) is captured in this video of Pacific Orchestra performing Rise Up in 1981. The quality of the video is bad, but the beats are undeniable. Along with Richie and George are John Gladstone on sax, piccolo and vocals, Keith DeBolt on bass and vocals, Khan on guitar and vocals and Steve "Face" Fuchs on the mix and vocals. Rise Up was written by Rick Fraley, Jim Ward, and John Gladstone.
The song Leaving Shantytown, written by John Gladstone, tested Khan's vocal abilities. Meant to be sung by someone with melodic skills, the band none the less made a valiant effort to put the lovely song across. Thanks to the solid rhythm section and John's flute adornments, it came close to it's potential in this live version recorded in Cape May, NJ in 1981. The band is Richie Ciavolino / Drums, Conga George Terzis / Percussion, Keith DeBolt / Bass and vocals, Khan / Vocals and guitar, and John Gladstone / Flute and vocals.
